Under the patronage of the President of the Middle Euphrates Technical University, Professor Dr. Hassan Latif Al-Zubaidi, the Technical Engineering College for Oil and Energy – Al-Muthanna convened the inaugural session of the Industrial Advisory Council, chaired by the Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Sadiq Hassan Al-Lawzi, and attended by Council members and representatives of governmental institutions and the private sector.
The session commenced with a welcoming address delivered by the Dean, in which he extended his greetings to the attendees, followed by a moment of standing and the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah in mercy upon the souls of the martyrs of Iraq and the Islamic nation, particularly the martyrs of the tragic Speicher massacre, in commemoration of its anniversary and in remembrance of their sacrifices.
In his address, the Chairman of the Council noted that the Council serves as an effective link between the College and governmental institutions and the private sector, thereby contributing to the exchange of expertise, the development of the industrial sector, and the achievement of sustainable development goals.
The session witnessed discussions on a number of themes pertaining to the current state of the industrial sector in Iraq and ways to develop it, in addition to examining mechanisms for strengthening partnership with relevant institutions, so as to align educational outcomes with labour market requirements and to develop the engineering and technical capacities of students and graduates.
Attendees emphasized the importance of updating academic curricula, adopting the principle of continuous improvement of study programmes, and benefiting from the expertise of Council members in reviewing curricula and formulating educational objectives to ensure the preparation of engineering cadres equipped with the requisite skills and competencies.
The session also included an open discussion for exchanging views and proposals regarding curriculum development, the enhancement of practical training and field applications, and the expansion of cooperation in scientific research and technical consultancy, all aimed at raising the quality of the educational process.
At the conclusion of the session, attendees affirmed the importance of holding regular Council meetings to follow up on the implementation of recommendations and to strengthen joint cooperation. Certificates of appreciation were presented to the members of the Industrial Advisory Council in recognition of their active participation and contributions to supporting the Council’s objectives and reinforcing collaborative ties between the College and governmental institutions and the private sector.
The establishment of this Council comes in accordance with the directives of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research regarding the formation of industrial advisory councils in universities and colleges, with the aim of strengthening partnership between higher education institutions and the public and private sectors, and developing academic programmes in line with labour market needs and national development requirements.
